#rabble
From looking at the discussion of everyday people on Twitter, it is apparent that the Wikipedia blackout has been very successful at attracting attention to the cause. Wikipedia is the number 5 site on the web but is also an important bridge between the nerd community and other “normal.” Combined with its dedication to open principles, it was the perfect choice for a centerpiece of the...

Socks are pretty much required if you don’t want to be a disgusting, vile, sweaty-footed douche. Still, I wish I could swear off of them. I can never keep them in pairs and they’re just another suffocating layer that my feet rebel against by itching at the end of a long day. It’s one of the main reasons I’ve taken to Toms and slippers recently. They let my hobbit feet...

Chatroulette is a great, hilarious human tragedy. It’s the manifestation of everything IT was supposed to bring, connecting people who otherwise wouldn’t meet each other across the world, but instead, people go on it to jerk off on camera.

"Blood and Treasure"
As the war in Iraq grows more distant in our rear-view mirror and our strange venture in Afghanistan also appears to be winding down, the media and some politicians have begun to wistfully review the myriad costs of the war, inevitably referred to as “blood and treasure.” The first part is obvious in origin, but why “treasure?” Are military expenditures somehow more...

It’s interesting zooming around Google Earth and seeing what borders are red (disputed). Kind of exposes the greed and conflict that distinguishes our species.

Social Networks: What have they provided me?
Twitter is open pretty much all day for me, via my phone and in a pinned tab. It has grown into my #1 source of news. I open Tumblr once or twice a day to see some funny/cool pictures, maybe post some things that interested me. Almost always log in with my PC. Yelp is where I go whenever I want information about a place and after I visit a new restaurant, to share my thoughts. It’s my way...
