I enjoy posting random shit which I like and you most likely won't. Think of me as a cranky old man. This blog is the porch I sit on when I scream at passers by.

Social Networks: What have they provided me?

Twitter is open pretty much all day for me, via my phone and in a pinned tab. It has grown into my #1 source of news.

I open Tumblr once or twice a day to see some funny/cool pictures, maybe post some things that interested me. Almost always log in with my PC.

Yelp is where I go whenever I want information about a place and after I visit a new restaurant, to share my thoughts. It’s my way of rewarding/punishing for good/bad service.

Google+ takes up barely any of my time. It as a really nice mobile app but the community seems pretty dead there.

Facebook is number one on my list to triage. Right now the only constructive use I get out of it is for event invites, acting as a social calendar. As far as interaction, I have begun to think that it doesn’t provide any additional functionality that couldn’t be replaced by texting/email. In fact, it’s harmful to my ability to connect to others because Facebook puts my contact list in the hands of a third party with no other way to access it. I’m thinking of deactivating it soon because I’ve realized that the site is structured to encourage me to stalk people who I have no interest in. Twitter is the polar opposite- I ONLY see people that I’m interested in. I’ve blocked so many people from my news feed that facebook doesn’t even know who my friends are anymore. It became especially clear in the new timeline- friending people was listed as a major event in my life even though I don’t consider myself close to them at all.
